Setting up a SLIP Dial-Up Networking Connection

These instructions will show you how to modify your existing PPP Dial-Up Networking connection to use SLIP instead.

From My Computer, double click Dial-Up Networking. Click on the SoHoConnect icon once. Click the File menu and select Properties. Click Server Types. A screen containing six tick boxes will appear. Set the type of dial-up server to SLIP: Unix Connection. Make sure that TCP/IP is ticked and untick logon to network.

Click the TCP/IP Settings button. Place a dot next to Server assigned IP address. Place a dot next to Specify name server addresses. Please enter 205.136.31.3 as the primary DNS address and 205.136.31.20 as the secondary DNS address; leave both WINS fields set to zero. Make sure that Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network are both ticked.

Click OK to return to the SoHoConnect properties screen. If you now see a tab called Scripting, click it once. If this does not appear, click OK, and then click the Start menu, followed by Programs, Accessories and Dial-Up Scripting Tool. Click SoHoConnect.

Whichever method you have used to access Dial-Up Scripting, you should see the path and name of SoHoConnect's PPP login script contained in the File name field. This needs to be replaced with a script for SLIP logins.

Click OK (or Apply and Close if you are using the Dial-Up Scripting tool). Your system is now configured for a SLIP login.
