In
order to automate your SoHoConnect login, you need to have Microsoft's
Dial-Up Scripting Tool installed. The original version of Windows 95 does
not have scripting installed by default. The newer OEM version of Windows
95 (Windows 95B aka OSR2) comes with scripting installed as part of the
properties screens in your Dial-Up Networking icons.
To find out which version of Windows 95 you have, go to Control Panel and click on System. You will see the version number. If the version number concludes with B, you have Windows 95B, and scripting is already installed. If you are running the earlier version of Windows 95, to find out if the scripting tool is installed, click Start, then Programs, Accessories and look for an item called Dial-Up Scripting Tool.
If you do not have Windows 95B, or if your installation of Windows 95A does not have the scripting utility installed, you need to install it. There are two ways of installing the scripting tool. The first method requires that you have your Windows 95 CD-ROM. The second method involved downloading the utility from Microsoft's FTP site and installing it.
Please do one of the following, but not both.
1. Installing Dial-Up Scripting from the CD
Double click the My Computer icon. Make sure you have your Windows 95 CD in your CD-ROM drive. Double click Control Panel. Double click Add/Remove Programs and click on the Windows Setup tab. Click Have Disk and click Browse once the window appears. Change to your CD-ROM drive. Change to the Admin directory. Change to the Apptools directory. Change to the Dscript directory and click the RNAPLUS file. Click Open and then click OK. Place a tick in the tick box adjacent to SLIP and Scripting Tool for Dial-Up Networking and then click OK. Click OK to close the remaining windows. Dial-Up Scripting is now successfully installed.
2. Downloading the Dial-Up Scripting Utility from Microsoft
This method assumes that you have a working Internet connection. Using your Web browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer), type:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Softlib/Mslfiles/dscrpt.exe
into the address box near the menu bar. Please make sure you type this exactly as shown here. Your browser will prompt you to save the file into a directory. Our suggestion is that you save the file into a temporary directory which you can easily find later.
Once you have finished downloading the file into a directory of your choice, disconnect from the Internet and then run Windows Explorer. This is found in the Start menu under Programs. Once the Explorer appears, click on the directory into which you saved DSCRPT.EXE. Once you see the filename in the window on the right, double click this. Several files will self-extract. Go back to the directory into which DSCRPT.EXE was saved and press F5 to refresh the contents of the directory listing.
You should see a file called RNAPLUS.INF. Click this with your right mouse button and click Install. The Dial-Up Scripting Utility will be installed, and you will find it in the Start menu, under Programs and Accessories.
Microsoft's Dial-Up Scripting Utility is now successfully installed.
