Windows 95 or 98

Setting Up a PPP Dial-Up Networking Connection

From My Computer, double click Dial-Up Networking. Double click Make New Connection and you will be prompted to type a name for the computer you are dialling. Windows 95 default name is My Connection. Type SoHoConnect and then select your modem.

Click Next and type the area code for the SoHoConnect number you are dialling. The SoHoConnect Access number is (441) 296-1639.

After you have entered the SoHoConnect dial-in number, click Next.

Click Finish and you will be taken back into the Dial-Up Networking folder, in which you will have an icon titled SoHoConnect. Click on the SoHoConnect icon once. Click the File menu and select Properties. Untick the Use country code and area code option.

If you are using Windows 98, the properties screen will look like this:

Click Server Types. A screen containing six tick boxes will appear. Set the type of dial-up server to PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet. The only options which should be ticked are Enable software compression and TCP/IP. Untick logon to network, NetBEUI and IPX/SPX.

If you are using Windows 98, the server types screen will look like this:

Click the TCP/IP Settings button. Place a dot next to Server assigned IP address. Place a dot next to Specify name server addresses. Please enter 205.136.31.3 as the primary DNS address and 205.136.31.20 as the secondary DNS address; leave both WINS fields set to zero. Make sure that Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network are both ticked.

Click OK, click OK again, and click OK a final time to exit the properties of your SoHoConnect Dial-Up Networking icon. You'll be taken back to the Dial-Up Networking folder.

There are a few more settings to check. From the Dial-Up networking folder, click the Connections window and click Settings. Make sure that the option labelled Prompt for information before dialling is ticked; the rest of the options in this section may be configured to your liking.

Click OK. You have now completed the configuration of your Dial-Up Networking connection.
