Dial-Up Networking
is a component of Windows 95 which is necessary to connect to SoHoConnect
via a modem. It may or may not have been installed when Windows 95 was
installed on your system.
To establish whether or not Dial-Up Networking is installed, double click the My Computer icon on your Windows 95 desktop.
If you see an icon called Dial-Up Networking in the My Computer window as shown here, you already have Dial-Up Networking installed. If this is the case, please do not follow this guide.
If you are following the step-by-step guide to setting up a connection with Windows 95, skip to the next section on Setting Up Your Dial-Up Networking Connection.
If you do not see the Dial-Up Networking icon in the My Computer window, please follow the instructions below. You may need your original Windows 95 CD-ROM (or floppy disks) handy.
From the My Computer icon on your desktop, double click the Control Panel. Double click Add/Remove Programs and click on the Windows Setup tab. Click Communications. Note that the adjacent tick box may have a grey background; if this is the case, it means that you have only some of the communications components installed.
Click Details and place a tick in the box adjacent to Dial-Up Networking. Click OK afterwards. You may be prompted to insert your Windows 95 CD-ROM or disks into your drive. Insert the relevant disk(s) and allow Windows 95 to copy the necessary files. Click OK when you have finished. You will be asked to restart your computer. Restart once you are prompted to do so. After your system restarts, an icon titled Dial-Up Networking will appear in My Computer.
