Windows 95 or 98

Dial-Up Adapter Not Configured for Current Network Connection

If you dial into SoHoConnect and subsequently receive an error message stating that the Dial-Up Adapter is not configured for the current network connection, there are several things you can check.

From My Computer, double click Dial-Up Networking. Click on the SoHoConnect icon once. Click the File menu and select Properties. Click Server Types.

A screen containing six tick boxes will appear. Set the type of dial-up server to PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet. The only options which should be ticked are Enable software compression and TCP/IP. Untick Logon to network, NetBEUI and IPX/SPX.

If you have the NetBEUI and IPX/SPX protocols ticked, and you do not have these network protocols installed in the Control Panel (under Network), this may be the cause of the problem. For your connection to SoHoConnect, you do not need to enable NetBEUI or IPX/SPX. Please untick these options.

Click the TCP/IP Settings button and place a dot next to Server assigned IP address. Place a dot next to Specify name server addresses. Enter 205.136.31.3 as the primary DNS address and 205.136.31.20 as the secondary DNS address; leave both WINS fields set to zero. Click OK, click OK again, and click OK a final time to exit the properties of your SoHoConnect Dial-Up Networking icon.

If this does not fix the problem, you may need to reinstall the Dial-Up Networking component of Windows 95. To do so, double click My Computer on your desktop. double click Control Panel and then double click the Add/Remove Programs icon. Click on the Windows Setup tab. Click Communications then click Details.

Remove the tick in the box adjacent to Dial-Up Networking. Click OK afterwards. Click OK again to return to the Control Panel. Do not restart your system.

From the Control Panel, once again double click the Add/Remove Programs icon. Click on the Windows Setup tab. Click Communications and then click Details. Note that the adjacent tick box may have a grey background; if this is the case, it means that you have only some of the communications components installed. After clicking Details, place a tick in the tick box adjacent to Dial-Up Networking. Click OK afterwards. You may be prompted to insert your Windows 95 CD-ROM or disks into your drive. Insert the relevant disk(s) and allow Windows 95 to copy the necessary files across. Click OK when you have finished. You will be asked to restart your computer; restart once you are prompted to do so.

If these methods do not fix the problem, you may need to delete your SoHoConnect Dial-Up Networking icon and re-create it. To do this, double click the My Computer icon on your desktop. Double click Dial-Up Networking. Click the SoHoConnect icon and click the File menu, followed by Delete. Double click Make New Connection and you will be prompted to type a name for the computer you are dialling. Windows 95's default name is My Connection. Type SoHoConnect and then select your modem. Click Next.

SoHoConnect dial-in number is (441) 296-1639.

After you have entered the SoHoConnect dial-in number, click Next. Click Finish and you will be taken back into the Dial-Up Networking folder, in which you will have an icon titled SoHoConnect. Click on the SoHoConnect icon once. Click the File menu and select Properties. Click Server Types.
